Touring the Pay Check Simulator
Use the Pay Check Simulator to make simulated changes to your pay and to see the effect of those changes. You can add or change your pay, deductions, and federal and state withholding criteria to see the impact of those changes on your final pay amount. For example, use the pay check simulator to calculate the change to your compensation if you increase or decrease your retirement deduction or add or remove a tax exemption.
After entering your simulated changes, you can calculate the modified pay. A Pay Check Simulation report will display the modified compensation details.

LINQ ERP Prerequisites
Your LINQ ERP administrator must complete the following setup in LINQ ERP prior to implementing the Pay Check Simulator.
- In the Ded Ben Category page (HMDED08A), create an LINQ EP category to be assigned to the deduction master records available for selection on the Pay Check Simulator. Refer to the Guide to Payroll Master Files for LINQ ERP HRS for more information about the Ded Ben Category page.
- In Deduction/Benefit Master page (HMDED02A), create the LINQ EP Deduction Pay Simulator records. Remember to assign the LINQ EP Category to each record. You must define the Pre-tax and After-tax deduction records in order to populate the Add Deduction List of Values (LOV) in the Pay Check Simulator. Refer to the Guide to Payroll Master Files for LINQ ERP HRS for more information about the Deduction/Benefit Master page.
- In Ded/Ben Groups page (HMDED07A), create a Deduction/Benefit Group to identify the deductions/benefits available to your employees in the pay check simulator. This Deduction/Benefit Group must contain all deductions/benefits available to your employees. Refer to the Guide to Payroll Master Files for LINQ ERP HRS for more information about the Ded/Ben Groups page.
- In Employee Category Groups page (HMCAT02A), create an employee category group that contains the employee categories assigned to all employees with permission to access the pay check simulator. Refer to the Guide to Payroll Master Files for LINQ ERP HRS for more information about the Employee Category Groups page.
- In Payroll Control page (HMPCL01A), create a pay control record that meets the following criteria. Refer to the Guide to Payroll Processing for LINQ ERP HRS for more information about Payroll Control page.
- Control No equal to PC
- Default value in the First Check and First Advice fields; these fields are not used in the pay check simulator but are required in the pay control record.
- Ded/Ben Category Group to identify the employee deductions/benefits available to your employees in the pay check simulator
- Employee Category Group that contains the employee categories assigned to all employees that may access the pay check simulator
- All Pay Cycles used to process pay for your employees
- Assign a default Pay Per, Chk Ctl, and default dates in the Beginning, Ending, Effective, Check, Direct Deposit, and Ded/Ben Factor fields; these fields are not used in the pay check simulator but are required in the pay control record
Navigating the Pay Check Simulator
The Pay Check Simulator has two sections:
- Change tax withholding — use this section to modify your current federal and/or state tax withholding criteria to see the effect on your pay check. You can also add a state tax withholding record.
- Change earnings and deductions — use this section to modify your earnings and deductions on your current pay check. You can increase or decrease an existing deduction, add another deduction, add another job record, or modify an existing compensation rate.
